The Great Chicago Fire

Picture
October 8–10, 1871

On the evening of October 8, 1871, a fire began in Chicago and quickly spread through the city. Strong winds, dry weather, wooden buildings, and limited firefighting resources allowed the flames to move rapidly from one neighborhood to another.

The fire continued for two days, destroying thousands of buildings and leaving approximately 100,000 people without homes. Families were forced to flee with only the belongings they could carry as firefighters and volunteers worked courageously to protect lives and slow the spreading flames.

The disaster brought tremendous loss and suffering, but it also revealed the courage and generosity of ordinary people. Neighbors helped neighbors escape, volunteers distributed food and supplies, and communities outside Chicago sent assistance to the survivors.

In the years that followed, Chicago began the difficult work of rebuilding. Stronger construction practices and improved fire-safety standards were introduced as the city learned from the tragedy. Chicago’s recovery became a powerful example of how a community can rise from devastation through determination, cooperation, and hope.

Reflection: Courage, Compassion, and Resilience

The Great Chicago Fire reminds us that tragedy can strike without warning. Homes, possessions, and familiar surroundings can disappear in a matter of moments. During such times, people need more than sympathy—they need immediate assistance, reassurance, shelter, prayer, and the presence of others who are willing to help.

As Knights of Columbus, we are called to respond when families and communities face disasters. Our principle of Charity calls us to provide food, clothing, shelter, and financial assistance. Unity reminds us that recovery requires people and organizations to work together. Fraternity calls us to stand beside those who are suffering so they know they are not alone. Patriotism inspires us to support our first responders and help strengthen the communities we serve.

The firefighters, volunteers, and neighbors who responded to the Great Chicago Fire demonstrated that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is choosing to act despite fear because another person needs help.

May we always be ready to respond with compassion when disaster strikes and help those affected rebuild their lives with dignity, faith, and hope.

May communities facing hardship find the strength to rebuild together.
Vivat Jesus!

The Carving of Mount Rushmore Begins

Picture
On October 4, 1927, workers began the first actual carving of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Led by sculptor Gutzon Borglum, the enormous project required approximately 14 years of planning, teamwork, perseverance, and skilled labor.

The monument features four American presidents whose legacies offer important lessons in leadership and service:

  • George Washington—Leadership and Sacrifice: Washington helped guide the colonies through the struggle for independence and provided steady leadership as the nation’s first president. He reminds us that leadership is not about personal recognition, but about accepting responsibility, making sacrifices, and laying a strong foundation for those who follow.
  • Thomas Jefferson—Growth and Vision: Jefferson envisioned a nation that would continue to grow and provide greater opportunities for future generations. For Catholic gentlemen and Knights, growth should include more than material success. We must also grow in faith, deepen our relationship with God, follow Jesus Christ more closely, and help our families and communities grow in wisdom and virtue.
  • Theodore Roosevelt—Courage and Protection: Roosevelt challenged the excessive power of large corporations and promoted the idea that government should serve the common good. His courage reminds Knights that strength should never be used to intimidate others. We are called to protect the weak, defend the vulnerable, confront injustice, and stand against bullying and oppression.
  • Abraham Lincoln—Unity and Reconciliation: Lincoln led the nation through the Civil War and struggled to preserve the Union during one of the darkest periods in American history. His example reminds us that unity does not mean ignoring our differences. It means listening to one another, seeking reconciliation, and working together toward a common purpose.

Hundreds of workers helped transform the mountainside into one of America’s most recognizable landmarks. Their achievement reminds us that great goals are rarely accomplished by one person alone. They require shared vision, personal sacrifice, cooperation, courage, and perseverance.

As Knights of Columbus, these lessons reflect our guiding principles:
  • Through Charity, we serve and protect those in need.
  • Through Unity, we bring people together for a common purpose.
  • Through Fraternity, we encourage and support our Brother Knights.
  • Through Patriotism, we honor our country through responsible citizenship and service to the common good.

Like the workers who shaped Mount Rushmore, each of us contributes something important to a mission greater than ourselves. May we lead with humility, grow in faith, defend the vulnerable, and build unity—leaving a lasting legacy of faithful service to God, our families, our parish, our community, and our nation.

A Joyful Grand Fiesta Honoring Saint Lorenzo Ruiz

Father Antonio Serenaded
**On September 25, 2026, the Filipino American Apostolate (FAA) hosted a Grand Fiesta to celebrate Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint and martyr.

The celebration was a wonderful success as our parish congregation came out in full force to enjoy delicious food, lively music, dancing, laughter, and joyful fellowship.

The true success of the Grand Fiesta began several days earlier. Members of the FAA, Knights of Columbus, SJV School families, youth groups, parish ministries, and many dedicated volunteers worked side by side to prepare for the celebration. It was inspiring to see our entire community united in faith and working toward a common goal.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments was when Father Antonio Gutierrez serenaded everyone with his beautiful rendition of “Hanggang Kailan.” His performance brought great joy to the celebration and made the evening even more special.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the organizers, volunteers, performers, donors, ministries, families, and parishioners who contributed their time, talents, and support. Your cooperation and generosity made this celebration of faith, culture, and community truly memorable.

May the courageous example of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz inspire us to remain faithful to Christ and to serve one another with love.

Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, pray for us!

A Joyful Evening at the SJV School Legacy Dinner

Picture
Kids Performance
On September 19, 2026, St. John Vianney School hosted its Legacy Dinner—a wonderful evening filled with excitement, joy, laughter, and fellowship.

One highlight of the evening was watching the talented SJV students perform for their families, teachers, parishioners, and community members. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and school spirit brought smiles to everyone in attendance.

Many Knights of Columbus members attended because their children attend SJV School. Other Brother Knights also showed their support through generous donations that helped make the Legacy Dinner a success. Their involvement reflects the Knights’ commitment to supporting Catholic education, strengthening families, and serving the parish community.

The Legacy Dinner was more than a celebration—it was a beautiful reminder of the strong partnership among our school, parish, families, Knights, and community. Thank you to the students, teachers, parents, volunteers, organizers, donors, and supporters who made the evening memorable and successful.

May God continue to bless St. John Vianney School, its students, teachers, staff, and families as they grow together in faith, knowledge, and service.

A Celebration of Faith:
The Novena of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz

Picture
The Filipino community of St. John Vianney Parish came together in faith and fellowship to celebrate the Novena of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, the first canonized Filipino saint and martyr.

The celebration began with the Holy Rosary, followed by Mass and a time of fellowship. Parishioners gathered in prayer to honor Saint Lorenzo Ruiz and reflect upon his courageous witness, unwavering faith, and complete trust in God.

Saint Lorenzo Ruiz was a devoted husband, father, and faithful Catholic who gave his life rather than renounce his faith in Jesus Christ. His example reminds us that holiness is possible in ordinary family life and that true faith gives us courage during even the most difficult trials.

The Novena is a cherished Filipino Catholic tradition that brings people together for nine days of prayer and spiritual preparation. It strengthens faith, unites families, preserves a rich cultural heritage, and invites each generation to place its trust in God.

The celebration was filled with reverence, joy, love, and gratitude. The beautiful church decorations, prayerful music, and parishioners' participation created a meaningful tribute to Saint Lorenzo Ruiz.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Filipino American Apostolate, its organizers, volunteers, musicians, and everyone who helped prepare the church and fellowship gathering. We also recognize the members of the Knights of Columbus who worked alongside the Filipino community to support the celebration.

Through events such as this, our parish grows stronger as one family in Christ—honoring the many cultures and traditions that enrich our Catholic faith.

May the example of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz inspire us to remain faithful to Christ, serve our families and parish with humility, and courageously live the Gospel each day.

Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, pray for us!

1796: George Washington’s Farewell Address Was Published

Picture
On September 19, 1796, President George Washington’s Farewell Address appeared in Philadelphia’s American Daily Advertiser. Washington announced that he would not seek another term as president and offered guidance to the young nation.

He encouraged Americans to preserve national unity, respect the Constitution, practice responsible citizenship, and place the common good above regional and political divisions. His decision to retire after two terms also helped establish an important tradition of leadership transition and the peaceful transfer of presidential power. United States Senate Historical Office

A Lesson for Knights and Council Leaders. Washington’s example offers meaningful lessons for the Knights of Columbus and our council leadership. Leadership is not about holding a title—it is about accepting a responsibility to serve others faithfully.

Council officers and members are called to:
  • Place the good of the council, parish, and community above personal interests.
  • Preserve unity even when opinions differ.
  • Lead with humility, integrity, and respect.
  • Listen to the wisdom and experience of fellow Knights.
  • Prepare and mentor future leaders.
  • Support an orderly transition of responsibilities.
  • Continue serving after leaving an elected position.

Past leaders remain valuable sources of experience and guidance, while new leaders bring renewed energy and ideas. When both work together, the council becomes stronger and better prepared to fulfill its mission.

Guided by the Knights of Columbus principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism, may our leaders serve with humility, our members support one another with brotherly love, and our council remain united in service to God, Church, family, community, and country.

Leadership is temporary; faithful service leaves a lasting legacy.

Knights Support the Turo-Turo Food Sale

The Turo-Turo Food Sale, hosted by the Filipino American Apostolate (FAA), was a wonderful fundraiser supporting the upcoming San Lorenzo Ruiz Fiesta.

Many of our Brother Knights came out to serve and support the event, including FAA President Chester Palonpon and Grand Knight Roy Carlisle, along with many other Knights who helped behind the scenes or simply came hungry to enjoy and support the delicious Filipino breakfast and lunch offerings.

The response from our parish community was tremendous! The food was so popular that many of the breakfast favorites were already sold out by the end of the first Mass.

Events like Turo-Turo are about more than great food. They bring our parish family together through faith, fellowship, culture, and service while supporting the celebration of San Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint and martyr.

We thank the Filipino American Apostolate, our Brother Knights, volunteers, parishioners, and everyone who supported the fundraiser.

Together in faith, together in service, and together as one parish family.

San Lorenzo Ruiz, pray for us!

Vivat Jesus!

Remembering the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing

Picture
On September 15, 1963, a bomb planted by members of the Ku Klux Klan exploded at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

The attack killed four young girls who were preparing for Sunday worship:
  • Addie Mae Collins, age 14
  • Denise McNair, age 11
  • Carole Robertson, age 14
  • Cynthia Wesley, age 14

Many others were injured. This act of racial hatred and violence shocked the nation and became a defining tragedy of the Civil Rights Movement. The four young victims remain enduring symbols of the struggle for equality, justice, and human dignity.

As Catholics and Knights of Columbus, we believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God. Racism, hatred, and violence are contrary to the Gospel and have no place in our hearts, communities, or nation.

The traditional ideals of Christian chivalry called knights to use their strength with courage and responsibility. They were expected to defend those who could not defend themselves—especially widows, children, the elderly, and the poor. A knight was called to be disciplined, truthful, loyal, generous, and respectful. His strength was meant to protect others and serve the greater good, never for personal gain.

Today, Knights of Columbus do not carry swords into battle. Instead, we defend human dignity through faith, charity, service, and moral courage. We are called to protect vulnerable people, assist families in need, stand against injustice, promote reconciliation, and remain faithful to Jesus Christ.

May we honor these four innocent lives by rejecting prejudice, defending the dignity of every person, and building a society rooted in justice, unity, and Christ’s love.

May they rest in peace, and may their memory continue to call us toward justice, unity, and love.

Our Call as Knights
Protect the Weak. Defend the Helpless. Serve with Charity.

The Bombardment of Fort McHenry

Picture
Picture
On September 13, 1814, British warships began a relentless bombardment of Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore. For approximately 25 hours, American defenders stood courageously against the attack, protecting the city and the young nation.

Francis Scott Key witnessed the bombardment from a ship in Baltimore Harbor. Through the darkness, he watched for signs that the fort—and the nation it defended—had survived. At dawn, he saw the large American flag still flying above Fort McHenry. That powerful sight inspired him to write the poem that later became our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The defense of Fort McHenry reminds us that freedom is preserved through courage, sacrifice, perseverance, and unity. The flag that remained standing became an enduring symbol of the American spirit and of the men and women willing to defend the principles upon which our nation was founded.

As Knights of Columbus, especially as Fourth Degree Knights, may we practice true patriotism by honoring those who serve, protecting religious liberty, promoting justice and peace, and remaining faithful to both God and country.

May God bless all who defend our freedom,
and may God bless the United States of America.

25 Years: We Remember
September 11, 2001–2026

Picture
25 Years: We Remember

Twenty-five years have passed since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, but the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the suffering that continues must never be forgotten.

On that morning, 2,977 innocent people were killed at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This number does not include the 19 hijackers.

Among those who died were:
  • 246 passengers and crew members aboard the four hijacked airplanes
  • 2,753 people in New York City
  • 184 people at the Pentagon
  • 40 passengers and crew members aboard United Airlines Flight 93
  • 412 emergency personnel who responded courageously to help others, including 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 Port Authority police officers

They were parents, children, spouses, friends, coworkers, public servants, and people from many nations and walks of life. Each person had a name, a family, a story, and a future.

We remember the passengers and crew members whose lives were taken aboard the airplanes. We honor the courageous passengers of Flight 93 who acted together to protect others.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, military personnel, rescue workers, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger. Many gave their lives while attempting to save people they had never met.

The suffering did not end on September 11. First responders, recovery workers, survivors, residents, students, and others were exposed to toxic dust and debris. Many later developed cancers, respiratory diseases, digestive disorders, and mental-health conditions associated with that exposure.

As of 2026, more than 145,000 responders and survivors were reportedly receiving care for 9/11-related health conditions. Federal compensation data recorded 9,677 deceased claims associated with 9/11-related illnesses, including 5,892 involving cancer. These figures continue to change as additional illnesses are diagnosed and families come forward.

Today, we surround all those affected by September 11 with our support and love. We remember the families who lost loved ones that morning, those who later lost loved ones to 9/11-related illnesses, and everyone who continues to live with physical or emotional wounds.

As Catholics and Americans, let our remembrance lead us to prayer, compassion, unity, and service.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

May God comfort every grieving family, strengthen those living with 9/11-related illnesses, protect our first responders, and help us build a nation united by courage, charity, peace, and love.

We remember the lives lost.
We honor the heroes who served.
We support those who continue to suffer.
We will never forget.

Together as One — Council 5322 Family Picnic

What a wonderful day of family, fellowship, food, fun, and brotherhood!

A very special thank you to GK Roy Carlisle for organizing and planning our Council picnic! Roy kept the excitement going as our boat captain, and Gena as First Mate, pulling everyone around the lake on the tube and creating plenty of laughter and great memories.

We also extend our appreciation to Rich Alden, our Picnic and Event Coordinator, for coordinating the food and helping make sure everyone had something delicious to share. We certainly did not go hungry—with an abundance of great food, desserts, and fellowship!

Most importantly, thank you to all our Brother Knights and their families who joined us and made the day so special.

Days like this remind us that the Knights of Columbus is about more than the work we do. We are a brotherhood united by faith, strengthened by friendship, and joined together through our love of family and service to others.

May we continue building friendships, strengthening our families, and creating memories together as Blessed Sacrament Council 5322.

Bound by Service • United in Brotherhood • Rooted in Faith • Strengthened by Family

September 2, 1945 — Remembering the End of World War II

Picture
On September 2, 1945, World War II formally came to an end with the signing of Japan’s surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. After six years of devastating conflict, the world entered a new chapter—one marked by hope for peace, rebuilding, and reconciliation.

Today, we pause to remember the millions of lives lost and families forever changed by the war. We especially honor the courageous men and women who served, sacrificed, and endured tremendous hardship in defense of their nations and the freedoms we enjoy today.

On this anniversary, let us pray for those who gave their lives, for our veterans and their families, for those who continue to serve our nation, and for all people throughout the world who still suffer because of war and violence.

May we honor the sacrifices of the past by becoming men of faith, men of service, and instruments of peace in our families, parish, community, and nation.

May God grant eternal rest to the fallen, comfort to their families, protection to those who serve, and peace among all nations.

God Bless Our Veterans.
God Bless America.

2026–2027 Knights of Columbus Installation of Officers

The Knights of Columbus of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 joyfully celebrated the Installation of Officers for the 2026–2027 Fraternal Year, marking the beginning of another year of faithful leadership and service to our Church, parish, and community.

The Installation Ceremony served as a reminder that leadership within the Knights of Columbus is not simply a position, but a sacred commitment to live our faith through Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism while supporting our priests, strengthening our families, and serving those in need.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our special guests for joining us and making this occasion even more meaningful:
  • Pete Lopez, District Deputy
  • Father Antonio Gutierrez
  • Father Brandon Meza

Their presence, prayers, and words of encouragement were a blessing to our council as our newly installed officers accepted their responsibilities for the coming year.

We ask our parish family to keep all of our officers in your prayers as they begin their service. May God grant them wisdom, humility, and strength as they lead with faith and continue the mission envisioned by our founder, Blessed Michael McGivney.

Together, we look forward to another year of serving our parish, supporting our priests, assisting those in need, and building a stronger Catholic community.

Congratulations to all of our 2026–2027 Officers!

Faithful to God, Loyal to Country:
The Fourth Degree Call to Patriotism

Picture
On September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, beginning World War II—a conflict that brought unimaginable suffering, destruction, and loss of life throughout the world.

This anniversary reminds us that tyranny and oppression must never be ignored. As Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, guided by the principle of Patriotism, we are called to stand courageously against injustice, protect the weak, defend the helpless, and preserve the freedoms and human dignity given to every person by God.

The Fourth Degree Knights of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 proudly continue this tradition of faithful and patriotic service. Our love of country flows from our love of God and is demonstrated through moral courage, charitable service, and a willingness to sacrifice for our Church, our communities, and our nation.

Let us take time to pray for and remember all those who sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom. May we never forget their courage, their service, or the tremendous cost of the liberties we enjoy today.

Faithful to God. Loyal to Country. Vivat Jesus!

Honoring Our Patron Saint: St. John Vianney

On August 2, the Knights of Columbus proudly showed our support and devotion to St. John Vianney, the patron saint for whom our parish is named.

Brother Knights came together in faith and solidarity by attending Mass and participating in the Novena to St. John Vianney. As Catholic men, we strive to follow his example of humility, prayer, and unwavering dedication to Christ and His Church.

May St. John Vianney continue to intercede for our priests, our parish, our families, and all who seek to grow closer to Jesus.

St. John Vianney, pray for us!

Vivat Jesus!

Founded in Faith.
Continued Through Service.

What began in 1882 as the vision of one Catholic priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, has grown for more than 140 years into a worldwide brotherhood dedicated to putting faith into action.

Father McGivney believed that Catholic men, united by faith and working together, could strengthen their families, support their Church, care for those in need, and make a lasting difference in their communities. From that simple vision grew the Knights of Columbus and the principles we continue to live today: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.

60+ Years of Service in Our Community

Here at Blessed Sacrament Council 5322, that same vision has been carried forward for more than 60 years.

Generation after generation of Brother Knights has given their time, talent, resources, and faith in service to our parish, our families, our youth, and our community. Through charitable giving, parish support, scholarships, community programs, fundraising, volunteer service, and simple acts of kindness, our Council has worked to continue the mission Blessed Michael McGivney began more than a century ago.

We are grateful for the Brother Knights who came before us and built the foundation upon which our Council stands today. We are equally grateful for the Knights and families who continue that work today—and for those who will carry it forward for generations to come.

One man's vision became a worldwide mission.
We are proud of our past.
We are committed to our future.
Together, we continue the legacy.

Charity • Unity • Fraternity • Patriotism

Blessed Michael McGivney, pray for us.
Vivat Jesus!

Celebrating Our Patron Saint - St. John Vianney August 9

Picture
On August 9, our parish community came together for a special celebration honoring St. John Vianney, our beloved patron saint and the saint for whom our parish is named.

The celebration was a beautiful reflection of the faith and diversity of our St. John Vianney community. We gathered for a special tri-lingual Mass at 4:30 PM, uniting our parish family in prayer and thanksgiving as we honored the life and example of the Curé of Ars.

Following Mass, the celebration continued in the parish gym, where families, friends, parishioners, and ministries came together in fellowship to share food, conversation, and the joy of our Catholic community.

St. John Vianney devoted his life to Christ and faithfully served God's people with humility, prayer, sacrifice, and an extraordinary love for the priesthood. May his example continue to inspire our parish, strengthen our families, and remind us of the importance of serving one another with faith and love.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make this wonderful celebration possible and to all who joined us in honoring our patron saint.

St. John Vianney, pray for our priests, our families, and our parish!

A Great Honor for the Knights of Columbus

Picture
On August 25, 2026, Pope Leo XIV appointed Supreme Knight Patrick E. Kelly as a member of the Vatican's Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life.

This important appointment is a great honor for the Knights of Columbus and recognizes the important role of Catholic laymen, families, and service to human life in the mission of the Church.

Earlier this month, Pope Leo XIV praised the Knights for their commitment to unity and charity and for bringing Christ's love to those most in need through the work of local councils around the world.

We congratulate Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide him in this new responsibility as he serves the Holy Father and the universal Church.

May this appointment also remind each of us that, as Knights, our service begins with Christ and extends into our families, parishes, communities, and the world.

Supporting Our Youth's Journey of Faith

As our St. John Vianney Youth Group begins their journey to the Steubenville Youth Conference, the Knights of Columbus were honored to help prepare grab-and-go lunch bags for the students and chaperones before they departed.

This small act of service reflects our commitment to supporting the youth of our parish as they grow in their faith and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ. We pray that this retreat will be a life-changing experience, filled with grace, friendship, and a renewed love for Christ and His Church.

A heartfelt thank you to Ken Garcia, Mark Williamson, Robert Saria, Charles Popp, and Trung Nguyen for generously volunteering their time to prepare the lunches. Your willingness to serve is a wonderful example of the Knights of Columbus principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity in action.

Please keep our youth, chaperones, and retreat leaders in your prayers as they travel safely and experience the many blessings of the Steubenville Conference.

May God bless our youth and bring them home with hearts renewed in faith.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Volunteers!

St. John Vianney School recently received a generous donation of 18 new classroom whiteboards. Over the past several days, Principal Hugo, Paolo Reali, and dedicated volunteer Knights of Columbus — Daniel Rossi, Enio Pereda, and Trung Nguyen—have been hard at work preparing each classroom, installing the mounting brackets, and securely mounting the new whiteboards throughout the school.

Their willingness to sacrifice time away from their families and work to serve our parish and school is a wonderful example of Christian service in action. A special thank you to Brother Knight Daniel Rossi and his father, who generously dedicated three full days to this project. His exceptional commitment and willingness to serve exemplify the spirit of the Knights of Columbus.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone involved for their generosity, dedication, and commitment to supporting Catholic education. Your hard work will benefit our teachers and students for many years to come.

The Knights of Columbus will always stand ready to serve. We are honored to support our school, strengthen our parish, and make a positive difference in our community. Guided by the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity, we remain committed to serving wherever we are needed.

Knight of Columbus Support Youth Ministry Car Wash Fundraiser

The Knights of Columbus were proud to support and participate in the St. John Vianney Youth Ministry Car Wash Fundraiser held on Sunday, July 19.

From 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM, our dedicated youth volunteers worked tirelessly, washing car after car with enthusiasm, teamwork, and joyful spirits. Their hard work and commitment were truly inspiring to witness.

Many of our Brother Knights, along with numerous parishioners, came out to support the fundraiser by bringing their vehicles for a wash and making generous donations. Thanks to the incredible support of our parish community, dozens of cars left sparkling clean, helping raise funds for the Youth Ministry's upcoming Steubenville Youth Conference trip to San Diego.

Events like these remind us of the importance of investing in our young people and supporting their faith journey. We are grateful to everyone who volunteered, donated, and encouraged our youth throughout the day.

Thank you to our St. John Vianney Youth Ministry for your dedication, hard work, and joyful service. The Knights of Columbus are honored to stand beside you in helping build the future of our Church.

Diocese of Sacramento 13th Annual Vocations Benefit Dinner

It was an honor for members of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 to attend the Diocese of Sacramento's 13th Annual Vocations Benefit Dinner on July 11, 2026.

Our council was proud to stand alongside Brother Knights from councils throughout the Diocese of Sacramento, united in our shared commitment to support and promote vocations to the priesthood. The evening provided a wonderful opportunity for Knights of Columbus from across Northern California to come together in faith and fraternity while raising funds to support our 17 diocesan seminarians as they continue their journey toward the priesthood.

One of the highlights of the evening was meeting Tuan Nguyen, the seminarian our council proudly sponsors. Tuan is currently in the Discipleship Stage IV of his formation, and it was a true blessing to meet him in person, learn more about his vocational journey, and assure him of our continued prayers and support.

Another memorable moment of the evening was the opportunity for members of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 to meet and take a group photo with Bishop Jaime Soto. It was a privilege to spend time with our bishop and celebrate our shared commitment to fostering and supporting vocations throughout the Diocese of Sacramento.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the parish community of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and especially to Rev. Guillermo Hernandez, for their warm hospitality and gracious hosting of this year's Vocations Benefit Dinner. Their generosity and dedication helped make the evening a joyful celebration of faith, fraternity, and hope for the future of our Church.

As Knights of Columbus, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting vocations through prayer, encouragement, and charitable giving. We ask our parish family and Brother Knights to continue praying for Tuan, for all seminarians, and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. May God continue to guide and strengthen those who have answered His call to serve His Church.

"The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for His harvest."

Celebrating the Charter Anniversary of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322

On July 14, 1962, Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 was officially chartered, marking the beginning of a proud tradition of faith, fraternity, and service to our parish and community.

For more than six decades, generations of Brother Knights have answered the call to live the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. Through countless volunteer hours, charitable works, parish ministries, youth programs, support for our priests and seminarians, and unwavering dedication to our Catholic faith, Council 5322 has made a lasting impact on St. John Vianney Parish, the Rancho Cordova community, and beyond.

While our service to the Church and community is at the heart of what we do, one of the greatest blessings of our council is the brotherhood we share. Through years of serving side by side, praying together, and supporting one another, we have built lasting friendships that extend far beyond our meetings and events. We celebrate together, face challenges together, and stand beside one another in times of joy and sorrow. The memories we create—whether serving at parish events, volunteering in our community, participating in council activities, or simply sharing a meal and fellowship—become part of our council's enduring legacy.

As we celebrate our charter anniversary, we honor the vision and commitment of our founding members, whose faith and leadership established a legacy that continues to inspire us today. We also recognize and thank every Brother Knight—past and present—whose dedication, generosity, and friendship have helped shape Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 into the strong and vibrant brotherhood it is today.

Today, we remain committed to the ideals established by our founder, Blessed Michael J. McGivney, by strengthening Catholic families, supporting our clergy, serving those in need, and building a culture of faith, hope, and charity.

As we look to the future, may we continue to grow in brotherhood, welcome new members, and faithfully answer Christ's call to serve. Together, we will carry forward the proud legacy of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 for generations to come.

"Alone we can do so little; together, as Brother Knights united in Christ, we can accomplish great things for our Church, our families, and our community."

"In Service to One. In Service to All."

Happy Charter Anniversary, Blessed Sacrament Council 5322!

Together We Make a Difference

To our newest Brother Knights and those who have faithfully served for many years,

I am truly proud to be a Knight of Columbus and to stand beside each of you as part of an organization that is making a lasting difference throughout the world. Whether you have just joined our Order or have dedicated decades to serving our Church and community, you are part of something far greater than yourself.

The Knights of Columbus are built upon the timeless principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. Every act of service, every volunteer hour, every prayer, and every helping hand reflects our commitment to Christ as we serve others.

One example that fills me with pride is our partnership with the American Wheelchair Mission and the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation.

As Knights, we often don't see every life we touch, but through our collective efforts, we are changing lives every day. Whether we are serving our parish, supporting our families, helping our neighbors, or reaching people across the globe, we are united in a common mission to put our faith into action.

To our new Knights, thank you for answering the call to serve. To our longtime Knights, thank you for your years of faithful dedication and for mentoring the next generation of Catholic gentlemen. Together, we continue Blessed Michael McGivney's vision and ensure that the principles of our Order remain strong for generations to come.

I am honored and humbled to call each of you my Brother Knight.

Our altar servers play an essential role in the liturgy by assisting our priests with reverence, dedication, and a spirit of service. Your spirit of charity, fraternity, and hospitality helped make this celebration a joyful and memorable occasion.

To all of our altar servers, thank you for your faithful service, your dedication, and your willingness to serve Christ at His altar. May God continue to bless you, strengthen your faith, and guide you each day as you grow in His love and answer His call.

Honoring Three Years of Faithful Leadership

A Tribute to Our Council Officers (2023–2026 Columbian Years)

As we close the 2025–2026 Columbian Year, we take this opportunity to reflect on the past three years with hearts full of gratitude and appreciation for the Brother Knights who faithfully served as our Council Officers. Their leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment have helped strengthen our council, support our parish, and advance the Knights of Columbus' mission.

Every Columbian Year brings new opportunities, challenges, and accomplishments. Through it all, our officers answered God's call to lead with humility, integrity, and a servant's heart. Their countless volunteer hours and selfless sacrifices ensured that our council continued to grow while remaining faithful to the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.

Over the past three years, our council has been blessed with leaders who worked together to organize charitable events, support our clergy and parish ministries, welcome new members, strengthen our brotherhood, and serve our community. Behind every successful event were countless hours of planning, coordinating volunteers, managing council operations, and quietly serving wherever help was needed. These efforts often went unseen, but their impact has been immeasurable.

While individual officers have changed from year to year, one thing has remained constant: their commitment to serving Christ by serving others. Each officer brought unique talents, experience, and leadership that helped move our council forward and laid the foundation for continued success.

Since the founding of Blessed Sacrament Council #5322 in 1962, our council has faithfully served our parish and community for more than 60 years. Each generation of officers has accepted the responsibility of preserving the traditions of our council while preparing it for the future. The officers of the past three Columbian Years have proudly continued that legacy, building upon the work of the many Brother Knights who came before them.

To every Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Recorder, Advocate, Warden, Trustee, Guard, Lecturer, and appointed officer who served during the 2023–2024, 2024–2025, and 2025–2026 Columbian Years, we offer our heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation.

Your leadership has left a lasting impact on our council. The friendships you strengthened, the programs you led, and the example of faith-filled service you demonstrated will continue to inspire future generations of Brother Knights.

As we welcome our new officers for the 2026–2027 Columbian Year, we do so with confidence and hope. We know they will continue building upon the strong foundation established by those who have faithfully served before them. Together, we will carry forward the mission and vision entrusted to us by our founder, Blessed Michael J. McGivney, while honoring the rich heritage of Blessed Sacrament Council #5322 and its more than six decades of service to God, the Church, and our community.

May God continue to bless our past officers, our incoming leadership, their families, and every Brother Knight who generously gives of his time, talents, and faith in service to others. May He guide our council as we continue this proud tradition of servant leadership for many years to come.

Thank you for your leadership.
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Thank you for your service.

Father's Day Breakfast Celebration

The Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for our Father's Day Breakfast celebration.

This special event was an opportunity to honor and celebrate all fathers, grandfathers, spiritual fathers, and father figures who faithfully serve their families, our parish, and our community. Through fellowship, good food, and shared faith, we came together to recognize the important role fathers play in reflecting our Heavenly Father's love, guidance, and strength.

We offer our sincere thanks to the Catholic Daughters and the Knights of Columbus volunteers whose dedication, planning, cooking, serving, and cleanup efforts made this event such a wonderful success. Your generosity and spirit of service helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who attended.

Most importantly, we thank our parish families for their support and participation. May God continue to bless all fathers with wisdom, courage, patience, and love as they lead their families in faith.

Happy Father's Day, and may God bless all fathers and our Heavenly Father, from whom all fatherhood draws its name.

Celebrating Father Antonio Gutierrez's 34th Birthday & 10th Anniversary of Priesthood

The St. John Vianney Parish family came together in a joyful celebration to honor Father Antonio Gutierrez's Birthday and Priesthood. The event was a tremendous success, with approximately 300 parishioners, family members, friends, and guests in attendance, all gathered to express their love, appreciation, and gratitude for Father Antonio's dedicated service and leadership.

A very special highlight of the celebration was the presence of Father Antonio's mother, who attended as the Guest of Honor. Her presence made the occasion even more meaningful, as parishioners had the opportunity to honor not only Father Antonio's vocation and ministry but also the family that nurtured and supported his journey to the priesthood. Seeing mother and son together during this special celebration was a touching reminder of the important role families play in fostering vocations and faith.

The evening was filled with heartfelt tributes, including special video messages and recorded greetings from former parishioners, family members, friends, fellow priests, and members of the communities Father Antonio has served throughout his priesthood. These messages reflected the profound impact Father Antonio has had on countless lives through his pastoral care, compassion, leadership, and faithful service to Christ and His Church. The expressions of gratitude and personal stories shared throughout the program highlighted the lasting relationships he has built and the many people he has inspired over the years.

The celebration was a beautiful reflection of the strong and vibrant parish community that Father Antonio has helped foster through his faithful ministry. Throughout his time at St. John Vianney Parish, Father Antonio has placed Christ at the center of parish life, encouraging spiritual growth, Eucharistic devotion, and a deeper relationship with our Lord.

As we celebrated both his birthday and the gift of his priesthood, we were reminded of the countless ways Father Antonio has touched the lives of so many through his compassion, guidance, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving God and His people.

May God continue to bless Father Antonio with good health, wisdom, joy, and many more years of fruitful ministry. May the Blessed Virgin Mary continue to guide and protect him as he shepherds our parish community in faith, hope, and love.

Happy Birthday, Father Antonio, and thank you for your faithful priesthood and dedication to St. John Vianney Parish!

Annual Fireworks Booth Ready to Serve the Community

Our Fireworks Sales Booth is Ready!

The Knights of Columbus Council 5322, together with the Catholic Daughters, came together in a wonderful spirit of service and fellowship to set up our annual Fireworks Sales Booth.

We are especially grateful to all the volunteers who generously donated their time, talents, and energy to prepare the booth and to those who continue to serve throughout the week. From unloading inventory, constructing the booth, organizing merchandise, and preparing the sales area, to greeting customers, working long shifts, and cleaning up each day, every act of service has played an important role in making this fundraiser a success.

Since Sunday, Brother Knights and Catholic Daughters have faithfully answered the call to serve. Many have given countless hours—some volunteering for multiple shifts—to ensure our booth is fully staffed and ready to welcome our parishioners and community. Their dedication, teamwork, and willingness to serve are a beautiful reflection of the Christian values of charity, unity, and service.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to every Knight of Columbus and Catholic Daughter who has contributed in any way—whether by helping with setup, volunteering at the sales booth, coordinating schedules, promoting the fundraiser, or supporting the effort behind the scenes. Your generosity and commitment strengthen our parish family and make this annual tradition possible.

We also thank our parishioners, friends, and community members who continue to support our Fireworks Sale. Every purchase helps fund the charitable works of the Knights of Columbus Council 5322 and the Catholic Daughters, allowing us to continue serving our parish, supporting our clergy, assisting those in need, and giving back to our local community throughout the year.

If you haven't visited us yet, we warmly invite you to stop by our Fireworks Sales Booth, say hello to our volunteers, and support this important fundraiser. We look forward to seeing you and wish everyone a safe, joyful, and blessed Independence Day celebration.

Together, we serve with Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.

Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession - A Beautiful Witness of Faith

The parish community came together in faith and devotion for the Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession, led by Father Antonio Gutierrez. The event was a tremendous success, with more than the estimated 150 parishioners participating in this special celebration of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

United in prayer, worship, and fellowship, participants processed along a one-mile route through the community, publicly bearing witness to their faith and devotion to our Lord. The procession was a beautiful reminder of the strength of our parish family and our shared commitment to bringing Christ into the world.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Father Antonio Gutierrez, Father Brandon Meza, the parish ministries, volunteers, and everyone who attended and contributed to this beautiful expression of faith. Through their dedication and participation, this celebration became a powerful witness to Christ's presence in our community.

A special thank you to Martin Wong for serving as the project manager and coordinating the many ministries, volunteers, and parish groups that came together to make this event possible. His leadership, organization, and commitment helped ensure a well-planned and successful procession for our parish community.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Knights of Columbus, both the English-speaking and Spanish-speaking brother Knights, for their dedication and service in supporting this event. Their assistance with planning, setup, traffic control, safety, and logistics helped ensure a safe, successful, and prayerful procession for all participants.

In addition, we extend our gratitude to the Rancho Cordova Police Department for their support and partnership in helping provide a safe environment for our parish community throughout the procession. Their presence and assistance were greatly appreciated and contributed to the success of this beautiful public witness of faith.

It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fellowship, share conversations, and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood that unite us as Knights of Columbus. Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession

Picture
The Solemnity of the most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) is a special celebration in which Catholics publicly profess their faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

During a Eucharistic Procession, the Blessed Sacrament is placed in a monstrance and carried through the parish grounds and surrounding community.  The faithful walk together in prayer, song, and adoration, accompanying Our Lord as a visible witness of faith and devotion.

This beautiful traditions reminds us that Jesus is not only present in the church building but desires to walk with His people and bless the entire community.

Confirmed in Faith: Celebrating the Confirmation Class of 2026

On May 11, 2026, our parish community came together in joyful celebration as 98 young men and women received the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a beautiful and faith-filled occasion as these newly confirmed youth took an important step in their spiritual journey, strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit and called to go forth and spread the love and Word of God.

Among those 98 confirmandi was my own son, and as a parent, my heart is filled with immense pride and gratitude. Watching him stand together with his fellow classmates, professing their faith and embracing their calling as young disciples of Christ, was truly a blessing. On behalf of all the parents and families, we are incredibly proud of each and every confirmand who celebrated this special milestone.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Bishop Rey Bersabal for presiding over this sacred celebration and for his inspiring words to our youth and families. We are deeply grateful to Father Antonio Gutierrez, Father Brandon Meza, and Deacon Daniel Rangel for their spiritual leadership, guidance, and dedication in helping prepare and support our confirmandi throughout their faith journey.

This day would not have been possible without the dedication, guidance, and support of so many individuals who gave their time and talents to help prepare these young people for Confirmation. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our clergy, catechists, sponsors, ministry leaders, volunteers, choir members, staff, and everyone behind the scenes who helped make this celebration so meaningful and memorable.

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen our newly confirmed youth as they grow in faith, courage, compassion, and service to others. We pray that they will continue to be shining lights in our Church and in the world.

Congratulations to the Confirmation Class of 2026!

A Blessed Visit: Relic of Blessed Michael J. McGivney at Our Parish (SJV)

We give thanks to God for the tremendous blessing of welcoming the relic of Blessed Michael J. McGivney to our parish.
As the founder of the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Father McGivney’s life continues to inspire us through his deep faith, compassion for others, and commitment to serving families and the Church.

It was a profound honor for our parish community to venerate a first-class relic—a sacred piece of his bone. This rare and meaningful opportunity allowed many of us to grow closer to Christ through prayer and to reflect on the call to live lives of charity, unity, and faith.

We hope that everyone had the opportunity to venerate the relic and have their prayer cards and rosaries blessed by reverently touching them to it.

May these blessed sacramentals serve as a reminder of God’s grace and the powerful intercession of Blessed Father McGivney, strengthening your faith and bringing comfort, peace, and protection to you and your families.

At SJV, we were blessed with an incredible day as many parishioners gathered together for the Mother’s Day Breakfast sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. It was truly heartwarming to see so many families, friends, and members of our parish community enjoying fellowship, laughter, and quality time together.

The event was filled with joy, gratitude, and community spirit, making it another successful and memorable breakfast celebration.

A special thank you goes out to all the volunteers, Knights, families, and supporters who gave their time, effort, and contributions to make this event possible. Your dedication and service continue to strengthen our parish community and reflect the spirit of faith, unity, and charity.

May God continue to bless all mothers and mother figures for the love, sacrifices, and guidance they provide each and every day.

Supporting Special Olympics with Heart and Brotherhood

On May 9th 2026, the Knights of Columbus proudly come together to provide meal preparation and support for the Special Olympians participating in the Spring Games at Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom.

Beyond serving meals, the day was filled with laughter, fellowship, camaraderie, and joyful moments shared among the Knights.  Events like these remind us that service is not only about giving back to the community but also about building friendships, strengthening brotherhood, and creating lasting memories together.

Continuing Our Pilgrimage Journey Together

As we continue to share more moments from our pilgrimage journey, we are reminded how truly blessed our parish community is to witness this beautiful experience of faith and fellowship.

These additional photos capture the joy, friendship, prayer, and spiritual reflection shared by Father Antonio Gutiérrez and our parishioners throughout their journey. Beyond visiting sacred and historic places, this pilgrimage has strengthened bonds within our parish family and deepened our connection with God.

Each image tells a story of gratitude, faith, and community — hearts united together in prayer and shared experiences.
We thank everyone for continuing to share these wonderful memories with our parish community.

Meet Your Neighbor - Building Community Together

This past weekend (5/3/2026), our parish came together for our Meet Your Neighbor gathering, and it was truly a joyful and meaningful time for all who attended.
Parishioners shared coffee and doughnuts while engaging in warm conversations, laughter, and fellowship. It was a beautiful opportunity to slow down, meet new faces, reconnect with familiar ones, and strengthen the sense of community that makes our parish so special.
Moments like these remind us that our church is more than just a place we attend—it is a family where we are called to know, support, and walk with one another in faith.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event so welcoming and memorable. We look forward to many more opportunities to gather and grow together as a parish community.

Honoring the Knights of Columbus and Parish Leaders

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Knights of Columbus, especially Roy Carlisle (Grand Knight), Martin Wong, and Father Brandon Mesa, for their dedication and service in preparing for and welcoming the relic of Blessed Michael J. McGivney to our parish.

We also offer a special thank you to the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Honor Guard of the Northern District, led by Marshal Richard Thompson, for their reverent presence at every Mass, faithfully overseeing and protecting the relic during its brief visit. Your commitment, respect, and devotion helped make this sacred experience truly meaningful for our entire parish community.

Easter Vigil Mass

Picture
During the sacred Easter Vigil, we begin in darkness as the Paschal Candle is lit, symbolizing Christ as the Light of the World. As the flame is shared from one candle to another, the light spreads throughout the church, reminding us that the light of Christ cannot be overcome. May we carry this light into our lives, sharing the hope, love, and truth of God with all we encounter.
