Memorial of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
On July 15th, we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Bonaventure.
Saint Bonaventure (1221–1274) was a Franciscan friar, bishop, theologian, and one of the Church's greatest spiritual teachers. Known as the "Seraphic Doctor," he combined profound wisdom with deep humility, teaching that true knowledge begins with a loving relationship with God. As Minister General of the Franciscan Order, Saint Bonaventure strengthened the community by encouraging lives of prayer, charity, and faithful service. His writings continue to inspire Catholics to seek holiness by uniting mind and heart in the love of Christ. His life reminds us that every gift and talent we possess should be used to glorify God and serve others. The Holy Rosary is a beautiful prayer that draws us closer to Jesus through the loving intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As we meditate on the mysteries of Christ's life, we grow in faith, find peace, and strengthen our relationship with God.
Praying the Rosary before Mass helps prepare our hearts to receive Christ in the Holy Eucharist with greater reverence and devotion. It quiets our minds, unites our parish in prayer, and invites Mary to lead us closer to her Son. Praying the Rosary daily at home strengthens families, nurtures faith, and reminds us to place our trust in God through every joy and challenge. Even a few minutes each day can bring peace, hope, and unity to our homes. As Knights of Columbus and faithful Catholics, let us continue to make the Rosary a daily part of our lives and encourage others to do the same. The Knights of Columbus Council 5322 was honored to host an Altar Servers Appreciation Celebration as a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the young men and women who faithfully serve at the altar during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Our altar servers play an essential role in the liturgy by assisting our priests with reverence, dedication, and a spirit of service. Their commitment helps ensure that every Mass is celebrated with dignity and inspires our parish community to worship more deeply. Through their faithful service, they set a wonderful example of devotion and discipleship for all. This celebration was our way of recognizing their countless hours of service, thanking them for their dedication, and encouraging them to continue growing in their faith and relationship with Christ. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the parents and families whose love, encouragement, and support make this important ministry possible. As Knights of Columbus, we remain committed to supporting the youth of our parish, fostering future vocations, and encouraging young people to answer God's call to serve His Church with joyful hearts. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Brother Knights who generously volunteered their time and talents to grill and prepare a delicious meal for our altar servers and their families. Your spirit of charity, fraternity, and hospitality helped make this celebration a joyful and memorable occasion. To all of our altar servers, thank you for your faithful service, your dedication, and your willingness to serve Christ at His altar. May God continue to bless you, strengthen your faith, and guide you each day as you grow in His love and answer His call. Throughout the week, countless volunteers gave their time and talents to staff our annual Fireworks Sales Booth, making this important fundraiser a tremendous success. Your commitment, teamwork, and spirit of service exemplify the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity while supporting our parish and its ministries. We concluded the celebration by proudly participating in the Fourth of July Parade, where we gathered as brothers, sisters, families, and friends to celebrate the birth of our nation. It was a joyful opportunity to celebrate our freedom, share our faith, strengthen our fellowship, and create lasting memories together. We would also like to extend special recognition and heartfelt appreciation to Co-Chairs SK Dan Almond and SK Joseph Henderson for leading the charge throughout this year's Fireworks Fundraiser. Their leadership, countless hours of planning, coordination, and unwavering commitment helped ensure the success of this important event. Working alongside an incredible team of volunteers, they inspired others through their dedication and servant leadership, demonstrating what it truly means to live the principles of the Knights of Columbus. To every volunteer, supporter, parishioner, and community member who helped make this week possible—thank you. Whether you worked a shift at the booth, helped with setup or cleanup, donated your time, or cheered us on during the parade, your generosity made a meaningful difference. Together, we continue to strengthen our parish, support charitable works, and serve our community with faith and love. We are excited to have them as part of our council and look forward to serving alongside them as we support our parish, strengthen our families, and make a positive impact in our community. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Grand Knight Roy Carlisle, our Council Officers, and all of the Brother Knights of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322, whose leadership, dedication, and support helped make this Charity, Unity, and Fraternity Exemplification a meaningful and memorable occasion. Your commitment to welcoming new members reflects the true spirit of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity and demonstrates the strength of our brotherhood. We are especially grateful to our special guests, Father Brandon Meza, for his spiritual guidance, prayers, and continued support of our council, and District Warden Roy Rodriguez, for joining us and helping welcome our newest Brother Knights into the Order. Diocese of Sacramento 13th Annual Vocations Benefit DinnerIt was an honor for members of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 to attend the Diocese of Sacramento's 13th Annual Vocations Benefit Dinner on July 11, 2026.
Our council was proud to stand alongside Brother Knights from councils throughout the Diocese of Sacramento, united in our shared commitment to support and promote vocations to the priesthood. The evening provided a wonderful opportunity for Knights of Columbus from across Northern California to come together in faith and fraternity while raising funds to support our 17 diocesan seminarians as they continue their journey toward the priesthood. One of the highlights of the evening was meeting Tuan Nguyen, the seminarian our council proudly sponsors. Tuan is currently in the Discipleship Stage IV of his formation, and it was a true blessing to meet him in person, learn more about his vocational journey, and assure him of our continued prayers and support. Another memorable moment of the evening was the opportunity for members of Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 to meet and take a group photo with Bishop Jaime Soto. It was a privilege to spend time with our bishop and celebrate our shared commitment to fostering and supporting vocations throughout the Diocese of Sacramento. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the parish community of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and especially to Rev. Guillermo Hernandez, for their warm hospitality and gracious hosting of this year's Vocations Benefit Dinner. Their generosity and dedication helped make the evening a joyful celebration of faith, fraternity, and hope for the future of our Church. As Knights of Columbus, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting vocations through prayer, encouragement, and charitable giving. We ask our parish family and Brother Knights to continue praying for Tuan, for all seminarians, and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. May God continue to guide and strengthen those who have answered His call to serve His Church. The Knights of Columbus is proud to recognize SK Dan Almond and SK Joseph Henderson (PGK) as our Co-Knights of the Month for July. This recognition honors their exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and countless hours of volunteer service in coordinating and leading our Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Sales Fundraiser. Serving as Co-Chairs of this year's fundraiser, Dan and Joseph worked tirelessly behind the scenes for weeks to ensure every aspect of the event was successful. From planning and organizing volunteers to coordinating schedules, managing daily operations, and ensuring the booth ran efficiently, their commitment never wavered. Their servant leadership inspired countless Brother Knights, Catholic Daughters, parishioners, and community members to come together in support of our council's mission. Dan and Joseph exemplify what it means to be Knights of Columbus—leading by example, serving with humility, and placing the needs of others before their own. As we close the 2025–2026 Columbian Year, we take this opportunity to reflect on the past three years with hearts full of gratitude and appreciation for the Brother Knights who faithfully served as our Council Officers. Their leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment have helped strengthen our council, support our parish, and advance the Knights of Columbus' mission.
Every Columbian Year brings new opportunities, challenges, and accomplishments. Through it all, our officers answered God's call to lead with humility, integrity, and a servant's heart. Their countless volunteer hours and selfless sacrifices ensured that our council continued to grow while remaining faithful to the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.
Over the past three years, our council has been blessed with leaders who worked together to organize charitable events, support our clergy and parish ministries, welcome new members, strengthen our brotherhood, and serve our community. Behind every successful event were countless hours of planning, coordinating volunteers, managing council operations, and quietly serving wherever help was needed. These efforts often went unseen, but their impact has been immeasurable.
While individual officers have changed from year to year, one thing has remained constant: their commitment to serving Christ by serving others. Each officer brought unique talents, experience, and leadership that helped move our council forward and laid the foundation for continued success.
Since the founding of Blessed Sacrament Council #5322 in 1962, our council has faithfully served our parish and community for more than 60 years. Each generation of officers has accepted the responsibility of preserving the traditions of our council while preparing it for the future. The officers of the past three Columbian Years have proudly continued that legacy, building upon the work of the many Brother Knights who came before them.
To every Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Recorder, Advocate, Warden, Trustee, Guard, Lecturer, and appointed officer who served during the 2023–2024, 2024–2025, and 2025–2026 Columbian Years, we offer our heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation.
Your leadership has left a lasting impact on our council. The friendships you strengthened, the programs you led, and the example of faith-filled service you demonstrated will continue to inspire future generations of Brother Knights.
As we welcome our new officers for the 2026–2027 Columbian Year, we do so with confidence and hope. We know they will continue building upon the strong foundation established by those who have faithfully served before them. Together, we will carry forward the mission and vision entrusted to us by our founder, Blessed Michael J.
