Who Are the Knights of Columbus?
The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization, founded on the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. Through faith, service, and brotherhood, the Order has supported Catholic families and communities for more than 140 years.
The Knights of Columbus was founded by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut. With the support of several parishioners, the Connecticut State Legislature officially chartered the Order on March 29, 1882, as a fraternal benefit society.
Father McGivney established the Knights to provide financial security and mutual assistance for Catholic families during times of hardship. Today, the Order continues that mission by offering charitable support, promoting Catholic values, strengthening families, and encouraging members to serve their parishes and communities through educational, religious, civic, and humanitarian works.
From a single council founded in New Haven, the Knights of Columbus has grown to more than 2 million members serving in over 16,000 councils throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, Ukraine, South Korea, Central America, the Caribbean, and many other parts of the world. Through charitable programs, volunteer service, and one of the world's largest Catholic life insurance programs, the Knights continue to make a positive impact on countless lives.
Blessed Sacrament Council 5322
Blessed Sacrament Council 5322 has proudly served the St. John Vianney Parish and the Rancho Cordova, California community for over 60 years. Throughout its history, our council has remained committed to serving God, the Church, and our neighbors through charitable works, faith formation, community outreach, and support for parish ministries.
Our council's first Grand Knight was Robert ("Bob") Biaczyk, who served during the 1962–1963 Columbian Year. His leadership helped establish a strong foundation of faith, fraternity, and service that continues to guide our council today.
Over the decades, the Brother Knights of Council 5322 have dedicated countless hours to supporting our parish and community through youth programs, pro-life initiatives, vocations, disaster relief, Special Olympics, parish events, charitable fundraising, and numerous volunteer ministries. Inspired by the vision of Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, we continue to live our mission by putting our faith into action.
We welcome all practicing Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, to join us in strengthening our parish, supporting our families, and making a positive difference in our community.
